Mini Tummy Tuck Surgery (Mini Abdominoplasty)
Some individuals’ abdominal area may be too tight to perform a full tummy tuck surgery on. Or for individuals whose skin is too loose to perform a liposuction alone, mini tummy tuck surgery is applied. Mini abdominoplasty, which has a short recovery period after the surgery, is preferred because the surgical scars are small. In this surgery, the fat in the waist and abdominal area is taken. The excess skin under the umbilicus is also successfully removed. However, stretching is not applied in the area just above the umbilicus.
Women who have excess skin and fat accumulated under the navel after giving birth can undergo this surgery. In addition, this surgery can be performed successfully on patients with a high belly button.
As with the other aesthetic operations, the patients should avoid taking any kind of blood-thinners, aspirins, and smoking 15 days prior to the surgery. Furthermore, patients should also refrain from taking food supplements for seven days in advance. Drugs that should be avoided are listed as follows;
Three days before the surgery, patients should also refrain from foods that might cause constipation. During this process, patients can consume foods that are easy to digest without any hesitation.
During the first stage of the mini-abdominoplasty surgery, liposuction is performed on the entire waist and abdomen areas. Fat might be injected into the buttocks, as well. Then, a short incision is made in the lower abdomen. If the surgeon deems necessary, the abdominal muscles that have been loosened enough are stitched together. In this way, the lower part of the abdominal walls will be tightened.
During the mini tummy tuck surgery, the excess skin remaining below the umbilicus is successfully removed. If there is loose skin in the upper part of the belly button, the belly button will be separated from the abdominal wall and the abdominal muscles will be stitched and narrowed. In the final stage, the belly button is repositioned downwards as requested and sutured into the abdominal wall.
The duration of mini-abdominoplasty surgery is determined according to the techniques to be used during the operation. If no liposuction is to be performed on any wide area, the procedure is usually completed within 1 to 2 hours. In this surgery, which does not cause any pain, local anesthesia is applied to the abdominal wall. As a result, patients do not experience any pain in the early stages.
Surgical drains are attached to the patients after the surgery. In addition, an abdominal corset is placed on them. They can stand up 3 to 4 hours after the surgery and start consuming light foods. Mini tummy tuck surgery is an outpatient procedure after which the patients are advised to sleep on their sides. Patients can take a shower 24 hours after the removal of the drains. Since the sutures are under the skin, no dressing is applied.
Three days after the mini tummy tuck operation, the patients can go back to their daily lives. About three weeks later, they can resume sports activities, except for the ones involving the abdomen. As of the sixth week, they can do all kinds of sports activities.
No severe complications develop after the mini tummy tuck surgery. However, the recovery period of the patients who smoke might be a bit longer. Scars might remain if the abdomen is sutured too tightly. Depending on the patients’ body elasticity, a revision operation might be considered after 1 year. In general, the side effects that may occur after this procedure are almost none. Since there are no serious complications as well, patients can consider to get a mini tummy tuck operation without any hesitations.
